Even before Rajinikanth announces his next movie, the first look of the film is already out.
Such is his fan following that posters created by fans for his upcoming movie are shared by everybody on the internet. So much so that people from the industry assume it to be the original.
Soon after the title of Rajinikanth’s next movie, Kabali was revealed; people were already talking about the Superstar’s role and look. It is said that he will be playing the role of a don. Directed by Pa. Ranjith, Badlapur actress Radhika Apte will play the female lead.
While the cast and crew of the movie remain tight-lipped, the rumours are enough to keep the fans busy. There are images being circulated online which is said to be from Kabali’s photo shoot. According to another Facebook post, Rajinikanth is donning a salt and pepper look, with a white beard.
For fans, this was gold. Many posters of the movie were made and shared by fans. “I made a poster before when the name of the movie wasn’t finalised and the tentative name was Gangster. I worked on another poster after the title was finalised,” says Terence Sandeep, a final year engineering student and a freelance graphic designer. “I am a die-hard Rajinikanth fan and have collected thousands of his images. Drawing references from the information online, I created an image of Photoshop within a couple of hours,” he says.
Not just the image, fans worked on the fonts and typography to go with the images. “I wanted our poster to look international. We went through several international posters, worked with photos of Rajinikanth and within three days created a look that we want to my role model in,” says Ashok Kumar Pandiyan, a filmmaking student, who along with Roc V.M. Aswin created a poster that went viral after they posted it on social media.
Many of the fan-made posters were mistaken for the original but sources from the industry say that the official look has not yet be released and the shooting will start only next month.
